Why we built FinderBuddy

Hi, we're Prashant and Deepam. We are two school friends from India, and we made FinderBuddy.

We use our Macs every day, and every day we had small file jobs to do. We had to make a photo smaller for a form. We had to join two PDFs. We had to rename a folder full of screenshots.

Each job was easy. Getting it done was not.

For most of these jobs, we went to big websites like iLovePDF. We uploaded our file, waited, and downloaded it again. For the next job, we needed a different website or a different app. A job that should take ten seconds took us ten minutes.

Why we didn't like the old way

We had to find the right website every single time.

We had to upload our files to someone else's computer. Some of those files were private, like ID photos and school papers. We didn't feel good about that.

We also got tired of ads, pop-ups, and downloads that ended up in the wrong folder.

Our simple idea

One day we asked each other a simple question. Why can't these tools just be in Finder?

Finder is where our files already are. We already click on them there. So we thought the tools should be there too.

Apple already lets you run small actions from Finder. They added Quick Actions in macOS Mojave in 2018. We wanted to go further and add the tools people really use every day.

What FinderBuddy does

With FinderBuddy, you right-click a file and pick a tool. That's it. You can:

• Make images smaller
• Change photos to JPG, PNG, WebP, or HEIC
• Join, split, and shrink PDFs
• Rename lots of files at once
• Zip and unzip files

If you have an iPhone, you may know HEIC. It is the photo type iPhones have used by default since iOS 11 in 2017. Many websites still don't accept it. We changed HEIC photos to JPG so many times that it became one of our first tools.

All of this happens on your Mac. Your files are never uploaded anywhere.

We made FinderBuddy for ourselves first. Then we saw that lots of people have the same small jobs.

You pay once. Right now it's $9. You get a lifetime license for up to 3 Macs and all future updates. There is no monthly fee.

This is only version 1.0. We will keep adding new tools, and we want to add the ones you ask for.
