How to convert HEIC to JPG online

  1. Drag your HEIC photos onto the box above, click it to choose files, or paste them with ⌘V or Ctrl+V.
  2. Leave the quality at 90%, or move the slider. Lower values make smaller files.
  3. Each photo converts in a moment. Click Download on a single photo, or Download all to get every JPG in one ZIP file.

That's all there is to it. There's no account to create, no email to enter, and no watermark on your photos. You can convert one picture or a few hundred in the same session.

Your photos never leave your device

Most online converters upload your photos to their server, convert them there, and send them back. That means private pictures, documents, and screenshots end up on a computer you don't control.

This converter works differently. When you open the page, your browser downloads the conversion engine once, and from then on every photo is converted locally, on your phone or computer. Nothing is sent to FinderBuddy or anyone else. You can even turn off your internet connection after the page loads and keep converting.

As a bonus, the JPG is built from the image itself, so the location, date, and camera details stored inside the original HEIC file aren't copied into it. That makes the converted photos safer to post publicly.

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC stands for High Efficiency Image Container. Apple made it the default photo format on iPhone and iPad in iOS 11, back in 2017. It stores pictures using modern HEVC compression, so a HEIC photo is roughly half the size of a JPG of the same quality. It can also hold extras that JPG can't, such as Live Photo frames, depth data for Portrait mode, and wider color.

The catch is compatibility. Plenty of websites, upload forms, online shops, government portals, and older programs still only accept JPG or PNG. Windows needs extra extensions from the Microsoft Store to open HEIC at all. When a photo gets rejected or won't open, converting it to JPG is the fix.

HEIC vs JPG: which should you use?

  • Keep HEIC for photos that stay in your Apple photo library. They take less space and keep the extra Live Photo and depth information.
  • Use JPG for anything you share or upload: email attachments, job applications, marketplaces, social media, printing services, and documents. JPG works everywhere.

Converting doesn't change your originals, so you can keep the HEIC files and use the JPG copies where you need them.

Choosing the right JPG quality

  • 90% (default): looks the same as the original to the eye. A good choice for almost everything.
  • 100%: keeps the most detail, for printing or editing later. Files are noticeably larger.
  • 70–80%: much smaller files for email or upload limits, still sharp on screens.

Changed your mind after converting? Move the slider and click Convert again, and the photos are redone at the new quality. If you also need smaller dimensions, see our guide to reducing photo file size for email.

Stop getting HEIC photos from your iPhone

If you'd rather your iPhone saved JPGs in the first place, there are two settings to know:

  • Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible makes the camera save new photos as JPG. They take more storage.
  • Settings → Photos → Transfer to Mac or PC → Automatic keeps HEIC on the phone but converts photos to JPG when you copy them to a computer with a cable.

Convert HEIC on a Mac without a browser

Macs can convert HEIC with built-in tools too: Finder's Convert Image Quick Action, Preview, the Photos app, and Terminal. Our step-by-step guide covers all of them: how to convert HEIC to JPG on Mac. For converting lots of different formats at once, see how to batch convert images on Mac.

Frequently asked questions

Is this HEIC to JPG converter free?

Yes. There's no sign-up, no watermark, and no limit on how many photos you convert. Each file can be up to 100 MB.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser on your own device. Your photos are never sent to FinderBuddy or anyone else, which is why it keeps working even if you go offline after the page loads.

Can I convert many HEIC files at once?

Yes. Drop or select as many photos as you like. They're converted one after another, and you can download them individually or all together as a ZIP file.

Does converting HEIC to JPG lower the quality?

JPG uses lossy compression, so a little detail is always discarded. At the default 90% quality the difference is very hard to see. Choose 100% for the most detail or 80% for smaller files.

Does it work on iPhone and Windows?

Yes. It runs in any modern browser, including Safari on iPhone and iPad, and Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on Windows, Mac, and Android.

What happens to location and camera details?

The JPG is created from the image itself, so the location, date, and camera details stored inside the original HEIC aren't copied over. That's handy before sharing photos publicly.
